User Guide

This is a general guide to using POD’s cars. You’ll find a similar guide in each of the cars, containing additional information specific to that car and location.

The POD 📞 Emergency Line (07:00-22:00) is 01422 292099. For out-of-hours (22:00-07:00) emergencies, please email: urgent@pod-caldervalley.co.uk. We will try to respond to urgent emails within 24hrs.

Before you set off

  • Be sure you have told us if your circumstances have changed since you signed up. For example, if you have gained any points on your licence, had a car accident, or moved house. It is your responsibility to do this in order to remain insured.
  • Make your booking in the POD app or in your web browser here. (It’s the same system so the booking will show up in the app.)
  • You can get the car from 20 minutes before your booking start time, if it’s available.
  • Bridge Lanes: the combination code for the bollard is in the User Guide in the car’s glovebox, and displayed in the “details” tab of your booking in the app.
  • Take a few moments to check inside and out for any damage or unreasonable dirtiness. Take a photo of anything you spot and send it to manager@pod-caldervalley.co.uk
  • If you notice anything that worries you and stops you from driving off safely, phone the POD 📞 Emergency Line (see above).
  • Make sure you’ve got phone signal and bluetooth enabled. You will need it to unlock the car!

The key and the app

  • Corolla: Unlock the car using the app. Then take the key from the glovebox and keep it with you. Start the engine using the button on the dash, left of the steering wheel.
  • Yaris: Unlock the car using the app. Take the key from the glovebox and use it (in the conventional ignition slot on the steering column) to start the engine.
  • Both cars: Use the buttons on the key to unlock and lock the car during your trip.
  • The boot: Have the key with you (out of the car) when opening the boot.
  • The key must be back in the glovebox key-slot at the end of your journey. End your booking and lock the car on the app.  Your booking can not end without the key being in the key-slot.

Fancy extras

  • Use the Accessory Request Form to use the POD car seats, booster seats, bike racks and the roof rack. We will aim to respond within 48 hours, so please fill out the form well ahead of your booking whenever possible.
  • You can only use accessories if you have booked them and had the booking confirmed by POD.
  • If you’ve booked them, you’ll find accessories in the lockable container.
  • The Hebden Bridge locker is beside our parking space at Bridge Lanes car park and includes: child car seat (any car), booster seat (any car) and tailgate bike rack (Yaris only). The key for this locker is in every car’s glovebox folder.
  • The Todmorden container includes: child car seat (any car), booster seat (any car), bicycle rack (Corolla only) and roof box (Corolla only). The padlock for the shed has a combination which is in the User Guide in the folder in the glovebox, and in the app, on the “details” section of your booking.
  • Dog guards are already fitted in the Corollas. They don’t need to be booked. They can be unclipped and lain flat if you need to fit large items in the back.
  • Allow time to fit any accessories and return them in the same condition.
  • Report any problems to manager@pod-caldervalley.co.uk.
  • Please lock the combination lock at the shed when you’ve collected your items.
  • There’s a bag of useful things in the boot – warning triangle, hi-vis vests, first aid kit, dustpan & brush, cloth, de-icer and scraper.
  • Phone cables live near the USB ports. We replace these when they get broken so they will sometimes look different, and may be a combination cable or 2 separate cables for Android and Apple.

Broken down?

Accident?

  • See the Emergency Guide.
  • If you don’t immediately report and collect all accident information, you may have to pay damage charges or extra fees, and your membership might be terminated.

Hello pets

  • Only the Corollas are pet-friendly. Please keep the Yaris cars pet-free, so that those with allergies can use them.
  • Dogs must be behind the dog barrier in the boot.
  • Other pets should be in an enclosed carrier. We’ll need to charge you if the inside needs a deep clean before the next user.
  • Please keep up to date with the Highway Code, which has rules about how animals must be safely secured.

Filling up with petrol

  • To fill up (with unleaded petrol), use the fuel card inside the plastic wallet in the glove box. No PIN number is needed but you may need to quote the car’s registration number to the cashier (it’s written on the card’s sleeve. At some garages the card machine asks you to type in the car’s mileage – this is visible on the dashboard near the bottom left of the screen.
  • Please return the car with at least a quarter-tank of fuel. This is so it’s ready for the next person. To be clear, it does not need to be full, and does not need to be where it was when you collected it.
  • If you have to make your own fuel payment for any reason, get a receipt that shows the number of litres and cost. Send a pic to manager@pod-caldervalley.co.uk.

Off to the recycling centre?

  • There’s a Calderdale council recycling permit in the glove box. Show it if asked, and make sure you put it back.

Back to my parking space

  • Please drive me back to my designated parking space. If it’s occupied or blocked, please park legally as near as possible and contact the POD 📞 Emergency Line immediately (see above).
  • Please leave the car ready for the next POD user. Remove any litter and turn off the lights and engine.
  • If the next user reports that the car has been left in an unacceptable condition, you might be charged a fee.
  • Don’t forget to take your stuff and leave the car key in its slot in the glove box.
  • Use your app to lock the vehicle for the final time, and end your booking.
  • Postcodes for the car locations are:
Todmorden – Working Men’s Social ClubOL14 5QG
Hebden Bridge – Bridge LanesHX7 6AT
Hebden Bridge – Market PlaceHX7 7BL
Hebden Bridge – Salem MillHX7 6HB

Need more time?

  • You can extend online or via the POD app before the end of your reservation, but only if there’s no subsequent booking. Otherwise, you must return the car on time.
  • If you know you’re going to be late and can’t extend your booking, you must contact the POD 📞 Emergency line immediately (see above). You pay 33p a minute for any time beyond your booking.

Never, ever, ever…

  • Don’t park in any underground car parks.
  • No smoking, racing, towing, trading or commercial use.
  • No driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Don’t let anyone else drive POD cars, unless they’re a registered POD user and this has already been agreed with POD. Otherwise, they will not be insured, even if they have their own insurance policy.
  • Make sure you’ve read our Terms and Conditions in full.

Left something behind or find something that’s been left?

  • The app will allow you to re-open the car up until the time of the next booking.
  • If you can’t do that, contact manager@pod-caldervalley.co.uk as soon as possible.
  • POD isn’t responsible if items left in the vehicle are lost, damaged or stolen. But if you do find something that has been left behind by someone else, please contact the manager at the address above and we will do our best to find out to whom it belongs.
